Mariah Carey Becomes First Artist to Top Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart in Four Decades
Mariah Carey hasn't released new music since 2018 but still managed to find her way to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart thanks to her legendary single "All I Want for Christmas is You," setting a record on the way. With the 1994 classic topping the charts during the week dated January 4, 2020, Mariah Carey now becomes the first-ever artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 in four different decades.
This year, the song peaked at No. 1 on December 21, 2019, and has since spent three weeks at the top of the Hot 100. Carey has now topped the Hot 100 in the ’90s, ’00s, ’10s, and ’20s, surpassing eight other artists who had topped the charts in three separate decades: Stevie Wonder (’60s, ’70s, ’80s), Michael Jackson and Elton John (’70s, ’80s, ’90s), Janet Jackson and `Madonna (’80s, ’90s, ’00s), and Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and Usher (’90s, ’00s, ’10s).
