MCQ's Recycled Cashmere Puffer is This Season's Outerwear Flex
Winter is officially here, and judging by the two snowstorms that pummeled New York City recently, it’s time to break out the heavy-duty garms. If you’re on the hunt for your first winter coat, or just on the market to up your outerwear game, look no further than this gorgeous puffer jacket from MCQ. The coat is part of MCQ’s second collection, which explores the creative possibilities of repurposed textiles, and uses a 100% recycled cashmere filling instead of traditional feather insulation.
The vibrant red, black, and blue filling is revealed through the puffer’s translucent fabric, instantly making it a head-turning piece. That’s notoriously difficult to pull off in the winter when you’re all layered up, and perhaps it’s why the jacket has been so popular lately. It’s been spotted on the likes of celebrity stylist Bloody Osiris and UK hip-hop artists Flohio and Che Lingo — who are both seen rocking the coat in newly released music videos.
Osiris says he loves the sustainable element of the jacket “and the concept of re-wearing outside pieces that are inside the garment.” It’s the “true definition of versatility,” he continues. For Lingo, the rising rapper signed to Idris Elba’s 7Wallace record label, what makes a design stand out is how it engages your imagination.
“The cashmere jacket by MCQ makes me imagine the skeletal structure of the body,” explains Lingo. “The misty translucent white is the bone and fluid, the jacket structure is the body’s shape, and the red and black [cashmere filling] are the blood, vessels, muscle, and guts.” Lingo used this as a metaphor in his video for South, which reveals intimate details about his personal life growing up in the streets of South London.
Flohio recently performed a song off her debut mixtape No Panic No Pain on A COLORS SHOW rocking the women’s version of the coat, which features a more aggressive crop. No matter which puffer you prefer, just know that it’s this season’s outerwear flex.
