In case you haven't heard it enough: Happy New Year! If you're anything like me, then these past days, to you too, will have felt like shutting one door and opening the next, in every which way. It's an out with the old, in with the new sort of vibe – kinda. Because with every passing dozen of months, there's only so much we can – or want – to take with us for the long run, particularly when it comes to the clothes we bought, wore, didn't, and are yet to.

Now what we've put the lid on 2024, MR PORTER and us deemed it high time to look at what will dominate the menswear trends of 2025 – at what'll actually makes sense to invest in, which of the pieces you already own to hold onto or revisit, and which to retire, if even only until their TikTok-induced exhaustion has waned.

Take this as less of an imperative head-to-toe consumption list, and rather a guide through what lies ahead, what X to add to your capsule rotation, and which Y to subtract until further notice.

Menswear Trends of 2025:

Funky Frames

It doesn't matter if you're far sighted, short sighted, or well sighted; come sun, come rain, you're wearing glasses in 2025. It's not so much one's vision that is to improve, but more so the daringness to try and really seize this accessory's vast and often untapped potential. The writing really was on the wall for this one, and you would've seen it coming had you only put on a pair of what? Exactly.

All-In or Next-to-Nothing

Minimalism's been climaxing for what's been just about the better half of the 2020s, and it's still in high demand. Nonetheless, the decade's half-time mark also sees a return of fun. Not just in trinkets, but in graphic tees, colorful crochets, and other reinstatements of bolder, brighter picks opposite a still-popular but more severe elegance.

Textured Knits

But speaking of louder attire's return: Aside from the two-dimensional material tactics we see soar, the three-dimensional, too, is claiming its place. In tandem with the Argyle print's rise, cable knit cashmeres à la When Harry Met Sally, and other woven and/or woolen textiles with chunkier stitch sizes are avenging how they were previously abandoned for less adorned alternatives. And don't even get me started on the Ralph Laurenaissance.

Field-Style Outerwear

Be it Barbour, barn or bomber jackets, earth-toned coats inspired by workwear and military gear will continue to draw above-average attention. Carhartt WIP, waxed hunter cloaks, and weather-defiant trenches are all shoppers can think about, it seems, as they scatter thrift stores and online shops alike for these highly layer-friendly outer shells.

Straight-Legged Trousers

Following an extended reign of ultra baggy, and a never fully materialized but much-feared comeback of skinny jeans, the pendulum of pants has luckily by now (re-)settled in the middle of the two aforementioned extremes.

Slender Leather Footwear

And for an outfit's final tier, let's talk shoes: Loafers remain a trusted choice for easy up- and down-dressing. Slim sneakers in the vein of, but as substitutes for, Speedcats and Sambas take the cake still – as do their higher end counterparts by the likes of Miu Miu, Margiela, or Dries. Oh, and extra points for all things suede, by the way.
