What We’re Saying: If you’re a young, stylish dad — or just wish you were one — make sure you grab yourself a pair. It’s part of the uniform.

Nordstrom and Mephisto — two titans in classic menswear — have teamed up for a special-edition version of the latter’s Match sneaker.

Mephisto was founded in 1965 by Martin Michaelo, who sought to create the world’s best shoe. While that label is subjective, one could argue he certainly came close. Mephisto's sneakers — the Match included — feature “Soft-Air,” which is a cushioning technology that provides exceptional and, at times, unexpected comfort.

Considering the fact that some of Mephisto’s most popular sneakers are classic leather shoes, clearly inspired by court sneakers in the ’60s and ’70s, they exist in a category where comfort isn’t always a given. But if you’re slipping on a Mephisto, you can be damn sure your feet will be comfy. The fact that heavyweights such as Patta and Concepts have collaborated with the brand is testament to that.

Nordstrom’s version, which was designed by Alex Dymond, features subtle differences from the original Mephisto Match. The decorative triple-needle topstitch on the lateral side of the sneaker was removed, while eyelets were added to the lower eyestays in place of the original d-rings to rid the shoe of its heavy metal-leaning aesthetic.

The sneaker’s Vamp features suede as a nod to classic tennis shoes. To round off the design, Dymond even gave instructions to the factory on how to lace the sneakers — over-under of course, as any New Yorker will attest to — so that they can be worn out the box without needing a relace.

The Nordstrom-exclusive Mephisto Match is exclusively available at Nordstrom for $375 via the link above.
