Released in 1999, the elusive Nike x Wu-Tang Dunk High is almost impossible to lay claim to in 2022. For those looking to quench the thirst for the silhouette in its distinctive black and yellow outfit, though, there are a few other avenues.

The Nike Dunk Goldenrod or Varsity Maize releases bear a striking resemblance to the OG and are readily available at resale. But why not have a bit more fun with the colorway? Miharayasuhiro essentially just melted a pair & we’re loving it.

Japanese designer Mihara Yasuhiro founded his label in 1997 and has since been pushing the boundaries of reference and bootleg culture, remixing familiar silhouettes with his characteristic sole unit.

Having played with silhouettes inspired by Reebok, Vans, and Converse, the latest Miharayasuhiro collection features some recognizable shapes inspired by the Nike Dunk. It doesn’t stop at the shape, either; this season sees borrowed colorways brought into focus, too.

One pair that caught our eye is the Miharayasuhiro Wayne silhouette which is, by all intents and purposes, an homage to the Nike x Wu-Tang Dunk from 1999. Boasting the sought-after yellow and black leather upper, it’s an instant eye-catcher. But, once you take a closer look, the Miharayasuhiro flair becomes more obvious.

A melted, putty-like sole unit dominates the silhouette, distorting the familiar upper and breaking it up from the equally familiar outsole, which even features the same star-shaped treads we know and love. Chunky yellow laces and MMY branding to the heel tab and toe box round out the update.
