Miharayasuhiro Reimagines the Classic MA-1 Without Arms
Transitional pieces are the backbone for this season’s rotation, and vests are topping the list. While some designs don’t provide the needed warmth, Miharayasuhiro drops an MA-1 Bomber hybrid for you to rock this spring.
Since launching his brand in 1997, the Japanese designer has carved his own path as the ultimate footwear maestro. Its signature melted sole unit still thrives in today’s streetwear sphere as one of the most refreshingly original returning styles around. But along with the signature footwear, the brand has been making some of the wildest RTW pieces, too. We’ve seen his crazy design experimentation in garments like its Double Waist Pants, the multi-pocket Bag Vest, and now, in this Bomber Vest.
During the ‘50s, the MA-1 bomber jacket was specially made for U.S. Air Force members to wear all year. Just like this relic’s original composition, this bomber vest is also made of nylon and wool. Features like the elasticated hem and cuffs, big side pockets, and gathered back panel are also reminiscent of the classic jacket’s silhouette. However, the eye-catching elements of this piece are the giant holes along the arms which bypass the sleeves to transform the staple into a vest.
In today’s fashion world, few designers ace the art of mixing weirdness with practicality, and Miharayasuhiro does it with aplomb in its outerwear pieces. During spring, the weather can get pretty unpredictable, so when it comes to choosing between a jacket or a vest, why not go for both?
