Mile 25.5—Highsnobiety x New Balance
On Friday night September 22, Highsnobiety came together with New Balance to celebrate the kick-off of its global Run Your Way campaign alongside their latest show, the Fresh Foam 1080v13.
Run Your Way is a campaign aimed at empowering runners to get into the oldest sport known to humankind: running. From beginners hitting the track for the very first time to seasoned pros, New Balance hopes to bring together anyone and everyone to break a sweat and go farther than they did yesterday.
Berlin is a city with running coursing through its veins. The city’s flat landscape and scenic green spaces, like Tiergarten and Tempelhofer Feld, have helped build a vibrant running community. Naturally, the event was put the spotlight on local Berlin running talents including Anna-Luisa Ruther, Ben Olayinka, and Mike Kratzer for a panel talk hosted by Calum Andrews. The trio are experts of the Berlin streets, and have their own unique stories of how they discovered the joys of running along the historic pathways of this global culture capital.
The host, Calum, set the tone for the conversation, reminding the audience that anyone who is able to run and wants to take up the sport “only needs a pair of shoes.” Setting up the conversation around the accessibility and inclusivity of running, the panelists delved into various aspects of the sport, from the mental and physical challenges to the sense of community that runners often find. They shared their personal journeys, offering insights and advice to both newcomers and experienced runners in the audience.
Afterwards, guests refuelled with planted-based crudités and replenished their electrolytes with a selection of smoothies and juices. As guests mingled and running dates were scheduled, one thing was apparent—running your own way is certainly important, but is by no means a mantra to run on your own. The Berlin running community was alive and well Friday night, and some new faces lapping Tempelhofer Feld in the coming days might have New Balance to thank.
