Swatch & Omega's New Blue Moonswatch Is as Rare as a Blue Moon
Swatch and Omega's MoonSwatch has been a nearly monthly tradition for the casual horologist and watch nerd alike since March 2022, with each iteration seemingly attracting more hype while selling out at record speeds.
The latest release from the watch duo may go down as the rarest of them all, appearing just in time for August 19's full "blue moon". Dubbed the Swatch x Omega Bioceramic Moonswatch Mission to the Super Blue Moonphase (say that five times fast), the new collaborative watch comes with a few design changes that separate it from its Mission to the Moonphase predecessors.
Eagle-eyed fans of the Moonswatch drops will quickly notice that everyone's favorite Peanut characters, Snoopy and Woodland, are absent on the watch dial, replaced by a UV-ink multi-shaded moons on its moon-phase indicator.
The Super Blue Moonphase rocks a pulsometer bezel (used for measuring heartbeats) compared to a tachymeter bezel (used for measuring distance) commonly seen on previous Moonswatches and the OG Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch.
Other notable features include its opaline dial with contrasting details that alternate from dark to light blue and the lumed indices and hands.
Of course in celebration of the summer blue moon, the Swatch x Omega timepiece comes in blue "bioceramic".
Though originally, not the biggest fan of colored ceramic, brands like Zenith and Audemars Piguet as well as the watch we have here today have me warming up to the idea.
Even more so, colored ceramic screams summer for some reason, making the Super Blue Moonphase one of those watches that can easily make an appearance in your rotation during the latter half of the sunny season. But, I digress.
Per usual you can expect the Moonswatch to sport a 42mm case size with qa uartz movement powering the watch.
Finally, the watch is all brought together with its spacesuit-ready, palette-matching VELCRO® strap.
The watch will be available for only a "brief cosmic moment", so you're going to have to act fast, with the Mission to the Super Blue Moonphase Moonswatch available to purchase only between August 1 and August 19, 2024, and only from 5 pm onward at selected Swatch points of sale worldwide.
Being that "blue moons" are quite literally a rare occurrence, this is most likely going to be the hardest Moonswatch to get your hands on to date.
