Editor's Notes: After making a splash with its debut release, Mizuno's adventure-proof Wave Mujin TL GTX is back and it's got a selection of brighter colorways to join the grey-hued original.
Releasing for the SS23 season, the label's new outdoors shoe has arrived in two new colorways, a variation called "Mojave" that mixes light yellow with teal blue and an "indigo" colorway with countless shades of blue.
But while the new drop might see it dive into some new color palettes, what's firmly stayed the same is the shoe's impressive tech.
That begins with the GORE-TEX membrane added to the upper, which introduces it to the bone-dry world of gorpcore where having waterproof shoes is essential.
The water-tight membrane is added over technical thermo-transfer layering and a Rip-stop mesh to ensure that while it is released under Mizuno's lifestyle-focused Sportstyle subline, it packs some serious performance.
Don't be fooled by the charming new colorways, this is a shoe that can handle the challenges of the great outdoors, and the sole unit solidifies that.
Borrowed from Mizuno’s trail running range, the high-performance sole has deep ridges for heightened traction on tricky surfaces and is made by Michelin — yep, the same company that makes the tires used for race cars (and rates restaurants).
After a busy 2022 that saw the brand further establish itself in sneaker culture with premium fabrics, insane sole units, and a collaboration with this very magazine, the latest Wave Mujin TL GTX sets the tone for the Japanese label to continue to dominate in 2023.
Here's to hoping for more GORE-TEX experimentation from Mizuno.
