Moncler's Space-Age Winter Parka Is Just What Our Universe Needs Right Now
Italian clothing and lifestyle brand, Moncler, has announced a new FW17 collection, and our in-house team got their hands on the space-agey oversized silver parka for an out-of-this-world photo editorial.
'Moonray' was inspired by the space race of the 1950s and '60s, the Apollo moon landings and the look and feel of the cult b-movies that were shown in cinemas across the world at that time. And Moncler do a pretty good job of transferring that strong aesthetic for a fun collection fit for the slopes. The collection’s centerpiece, the oversized padded silver parka, unmistakably brings the theme to life. The larger than life outerwear piece features a silicon-washed surface that gives it a reflective, shimmering look while the coton ciré fabric weaved throughout adds that extra layer of metallic sheen. Meanwhile, the beefy coats' wrap-around collar and fur-lined hood ensure it'll keep you warm on the slopes or on the streets (if you're out there enough to work it).
The editorial's styling wouldn't look out of place in the original 1982 Blade Runner movie as we combined a minimalist dystopian aesthetic with a retro-futurism finish, all resting on a solid bedrock of the finest in contemporary streetwear.
