Menswear Is Gearing Up – Or Down, Rather – For Spring
Though cold enough to have you fooled, we're actually nearing the beginning of spring. In just about a handful of weeks from now, winter will officially be behind us, warmer days lying ahead.
In anticipation of its arrival, it felt appropriate to reexamine 2025's key menswear trends, and extrapolate from them the upcoming season's most important characteristics.
Sourced entirely from MR PORTER, the below styles exemplify the major motifs to go by as you gear up – or down, rather – to soft launch your springwear.
Lighter Layers
Somewhat of a no-brainer, sure, but there's more to lighter layers than just the shedding of one of many items of clothing. Functionality remains a critical feature, but optics take on a more central role, with every tier ideally able to both stand alone, and work in composition with other clothes.
A possible rule of thumb could be to task a statement item to serve as the outfit's linchpin, around which more subtle accompaniments can work their magic. We're moving on from super subdued looks onto more daring garments, to accentuate an otherwise timeless getup with timely twists and turns.
Acne Studios Coated Denim Jacket
KAPITAL Patchwork Sweatshirt
Simone Rocha Printed T-Shirt
Tom Ford Field Jacket
Valentino Garavani Zip Jacket
Pleated Pants
While we have yet to actually see the full return of the skinny jean, opposite virtues à la "the bigger the better" no longer apply to pants.
Amongst other indications, Kendrick Lamar's Super Bowl flares are a most recent signal of where trouser shapes are headed, with pleats and more sculpted cuts reducing the excessive leg widths of late.
Dries Van Noten Linen-Wool-Blend Pant
MR P. Suit Trousers
Needles Jersey Track Pants
Slim Suede Sneakers
The Samba's chokehold on footwear's been nothing short of astounding, ongoing for years now, even though most of us have had to by-now retire theirs in reaction to being over-exposed.
Nonetheless, their slender, leather physique has clearly inspired newer releases by the likes of LOEWE, GANNI, and Veja, the PUMA Speedcat revival, or offered an alternative to those who weren't quite ready to commit to something as pricey as Margiela's iconic Replica. But rest assured, we're nowhere near the end of Shoezempic. So, if you can, tighten those silhouettes, not your purse strings.
LOEWE Ballet Runner 2.0
Maison Margiela Replica Shoes
VISVIM Fringed Suede Sneakers
