Ava DuVernay's mini-series When They See Us, about the Central Park Five, has been the most watched series on Netflix in the US every day since it premiered on May 31, according to the streaming platform.

Netflix is notorious for keeping its streaming figures hidden, so there is no way to verify the claim. However, we know that, unlike the heavily marketed Netflix Original movie Bird Box starring Sandra Bullock, which divided audiences and criticsWhen They See Us has been receiving almost uniformly positive reviews.

The show dramatizes the wrongful conviction of five black teenagers, known as the Central Park Five, for the rape of a jogger in New York in 1989. The story takes place over 25 years, from the initially incorrect media coverage that damned the boys to the settlement they eventually received in 2014.
