After unveiling the 997H earlier this year, New Balance continues to explore the possibilities of the 997 silhouette with the 997 Sport. Giving the popular sneaker another modern update, the new generation of 997s brings a more streamlined look to the ‘90s kicks and introduces a modern sole unit for the most staple and comfortable underfoot experience yet.
Designed by acclaimed sneaker designer Steven Smith, the 997 was created in 1991 with equal emphasis on technology, comfort, and style. The silhouette introduced a new aesthetic to the 99x range as well as a new ENCAP sole unit that featured C-Cap compression-molded EVA within it.
The 997 Sport sees this hybrid sole unit progressed with Encap Reveal technology and Abzorb cushioning in the midfoot for maximum support, durability, and exceptional shock absorption. Fusing old and new, the upper pays homage to the original 997 but has been reworked to create a more form-fitting and streamlined silhouette. The collar boasts a booty construction for an easy instep and snug fit, while refined details such as textile seam tape on the tongue and TPU collar strap add a premium feel to the contemporary sneaker.
The latest drop sees the silhouette dressed up in three new colorways: Castlerock/Amazonite, White/Morrocan Tile, and Gunmetal/Verdite. Set against a monochrome base, each iteration features pops of bold primary color giving the sneaker a sporty feel. All three colorways retail for €110/$120 and are available world now.
