What We’re Saying: New Balance is celebrating its iconic 990 series by releasing new Made in US versions of the first four models from the line. To start, the brand is appropriately taking things back to where it all began in 1982 with the 990v1.

The 990v1 was the culmination of four years of work that saw New Balance research, develop, and design arguably the best running shoe at the time, one that became the first-ever runner to reach a retail price of $100. The shoe ultimately spawned one of the brand's most successful series, as the 990 line has made its way from the track to the streets and on to the runway in the years since.

The forthcoming MADE version of the 990v1 will appropriately release in New Balance's signature grey colorway. The familiar construction remains intact, as we see a mixture of suede and mesh on the upper, with hits of smooth leather to complement. The customary N branding on the side appears in white to match the tongue tag and laces, while pops of red deviate from the OG, emerging via the Version 1 tag and New Balance branding on the tongue and heel.

The return of the 990v1 is only the beginning. New Balance is slated to release similar versions of the 990v2, 990v3, and 990v4 leading up to the 40th anniversary of the 990.
