Editor’s Notes: Nike is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Air Max 90 by releasing new reworked iterations of the iconic sneaker, inspired by OG colorways. Fans of the beloved Air Max model can look forward to three color options arriving next week on January 9.
Originally referred to as the Air Max III, the sneaker was designed by Tinker Hatfield and released in 1990. Boasting a larger Air unit than its predecessors, the Air Max 90 was known early on for its improved flexibility and multi-port lacing system, in addition to a textured upper which allowed for more adventurous color schemes.
For the 30th anniversary, the Air Max 90 features a retooled panel scale, toe box height, and heel panel. The sneaker is releasing in OG-inspired "Volt," "Hyper Grape," and "Hyper Turquoise," colorways January 9, well in advance of Air Max Day on March 26.
