Nike's Waterproof Air Max Has a Timeless Toughness
The Nike Air Max 90 has appeared in many shapes and forms throughout its lifetime, but its toughest look is undoubtedly its GORE-TEX version.
The GORE-TEX Nike Air Max 90 sneakers refresh the iconic design with a breathable, waterproof construction designed to keep you dry throughout the day (and whatever weather it may bring).
New construction and GORE-TEX branding aside, the Nike Air Max 90 sneaker remains, well, a Nike Air Max 90. The shoe keeps its distinctive layered upper as well as its grippy Waffle outsoles.
The Nike Air Max 90 GORE-TEX also features the traditional stacked sole infused with Nike's famous Air (still visible through that tiny window).
Nike has even prepared the Nike Air Max 90 GORE-TEX in classic colorways like "Racer Blue" and the iconic "Infrared." Nike also offers some earthier schemes, which certainly echo the GORE-TEX AM90's new rugged vibe.
There are a few ways to make Nike's most classic sneakers, like the Air Max 90, better: collaborate with a stylish personality, give them a colorway inspired by an iconic luxury jeweler, or even turn the pairs into a sneakerhead-friendly accessory.
But GORE-TEX Nikes? The name alone makes the sneakers sound cooler.
The waterproof material then improves the models, taking the Swoosh shoes from classic to timelessly tough, as demonstrated with a recently upgraded Air Force 1.
Not that Nike's weatherproof shoes need GORE-TEX to be all that they can be, of course — look no further than the recently winterized Lunar Force 1 for proof.
But GORE-TEX is more than a reliable technology: It's also a reliable brand name, synonymous with all-day all-weather utility.
And for a sure-fire sneaker like the Air Max 90, that's double the win.
