Nike’s Most Classic Runner Is Now Its Most Technical
Another Nike Air Max sneaker has entered the villa. The villa of reimagined classics, that is.
The Nike Air Max Waffle is a delightful hodgepodge of Nike sneaker's past.
Its midsole pulls from Nike's Air Max Plus, a highly favored Air Max iteration known for its "TN" ("Tuned") branding, and of course, it's got that big Air Max bubble bounce at the heel.
This is an Air Max sneaker, after all.
And, yet, that upper and outsole is a Nike Waffle sneaker through and through.
If you'll recall, the Nike Waffle sneaker is a retro beast that is so beautifully elderly it surpasses the typical confines of dad shoes, shooting straight up into gramp sneaker territory.
Essentially, the Air Max Waffle is like a classic crossover episode — for your feet.
And the similarities certainly don't stop there. The brightly-hued colorway and suede overlays resemble the mega-popular "Green Gusto" Sacai x Nike LDWaffle sneaker, which is still one of the best Nike collaborations to hit the mainstream. (In my extremely biased opinion, of course)
For all of its innovation and collaborative energy, though, the Nike Air Max Waffle still acknowledges its running shoe tradition.
The mid-arch of the sneaker wears an orange sunset colorway, the same colorway the Nike Air Max Plus debuted in 1998.
It's truly the best of many worlds.
