What We’re Saying: Paul George debuted his new PlayStation 5-inspired PG 5 last night when the LA Clippers took on the Toronto Raptors. Since then, Nike has come through with official images of the collaborative colorway, which is scheduled to release later this month.
George's ongoing collaboration with PlayStation harkens back to his time spent gaming as a kid. Designed to showcase the NBA star's affinity for the gaming brand, the PG 5 "PlayStation 5" mimics the industrial design of the console. The color scheme is a direct nod to the PS5, as signature PlayStation shapes can then be found on the upper in the same pattern as on the DualSense controller. Much like the console and the controller, tiny PlayStation symbols brand the shoe throughout.
Nike worked alongside Sony Interactive Entertainment Art Director Yujin Morisawa to come up with the design for the PG 5 "PlayStation 5" even before the console was announced. The collaborative sneaker will be available in North America on May 27, following a release in select regions on May 14.
