Nike SB Is Going All-Out On Dunks for the Tokyo Olympics
Fresh off of unveiling the federation jerseys for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Nike SB has made another huge announcement, this time in the footwear sphere. The Swoosh’s skateboarding division has unveiled not one, but four SB Dunks that will be released over the coming weeks.
With skateboarding an official Olympic sport for the first time ever during this summer’s edition of the games, Nike SB is pulling out all the stops to celebrate. In addition to the federation jerseys for Japan, France, Brazil and the United States, Nike SB sponsors 45 percent of all women competing in street at the inaugural event, and is providing SB fans with a host of tasty product.
The four Nike SB Dunks that were unveiled have all been teased over the previous few months and comprise the Parra x Nike SB Dunk Low, FTC x Nike SB Dunk Low, Bandai Gundam x Nike SB Dunk High, and the Quartersnacks x Nike SB Dunk Low. Only the Parra x Nike SB Dunk Low is an official Olympics shoe, but the rest are all loosely connected to the event through their inspirations and colorways.
Check out each of the four styles in detail below.
Parra x Nike SB Dunk Low
Parra was tapped to design the four federation jerseys and has put his signature touch on a pair of SB Dunk Lows, mirroring the pops of color found on the kits. A clean white base and black Swoosh contrast the playful, wavy geometric patterns on the upper’s paneling.
Quartersnacks x Nike SB Dunk Low
Quartersnacks is a long-time Nike SB collaborator and has taken inspiration from fluffy cakes covered with icing, topping their SB Dunk Low with a funky fudge zebra stripe pattern. The design is in line with Quartersnacks’ junk food and NYC skateboarding heritage.
Bandai Gundam x Nike SB Dunk High
The Unicorn Gundam, one of the most famous toys in Japan, is the inspiration for this set of SB Dunk Highs. Arriving in two colorways, which reference the modes of the Gundam from the original storyline, the collaborative Dunk also features interchangeable Swoosh decals — an homage to the customizable nature of the toy models, as well as the stickers on puts on a skateboard.
FTC x Nike SB Dunk Low
Japan’s public bathhouses serve as the inspiration for FTC’s Nike SB Dunk Low. The blue suede and white leather, as well as the translucent sole, are clear nods to the crystal-clean aesthetic of the Sento.
Stay tuned for release information.
