What We’re Saying: Nike SB is paying tribute to visionary Sandy Bodecker with a new silhouette based on the Bruin. Aptly dubbed the Sandy ZoomX Bruin, this certainly isn't your average skate shoe, as the sneaker is decked out with performance running tech, some of which Bodecker himself helped guide.
As Nike puts it, the Sandy ZoomX Bruin honors "Bodecker's vision and skateboarding's verve." A first for a skate shoe, the model makes use of Flyknit on the upper, as the brand's signature material appears in a custom print featuring Mark Smith's “Blue Sky Dreamer” portrait of Bodecker that hangs in The Bodecker Foundation space in Oregon.
What's even more groundbreaking, however, is the utilization of Nike's industry leading running tooling on the Sandy ZoomX Bruin. Drawing from the sub-two-hour marathon project and the subsequent invention of NEXT% running technology, the sneaker's drop-in midsole incorporates Nike ZoomX foam for cushioning and a full-length carbon fiber plate for pop, the latter of which can be found in race day "super shoes." While all of this is packaged in Nike SB's innovative new design, the skate sneaker still boasts the overall look of the classic Bruin silhouette.
The debut of the new model, which is slated to arrive this summer, comes as the brand is currently prepping for the first-ever Olympics to include skateboarding. You can learn more about what Nike has in store for Tokyo by following here.
