The Comfort Level of On's Latest Running Sneaker Goes to 11
On's new Cloudsurfer Next sneaker has inspired me to join one of those run clubs I've been hearing so much about.
That may be a bit of a stretch. But the (reportedly) ubër-comfy shoe's blend of performance and style is just alluring enough that I may be tempted.
On's original (and fan-favorite) Cloudsurfer sneakers are reported to offer runners a cloud-like feel that I imagine to be a welcome reprieve for those speeding through multiple miles on a consistent basis. Even daily steppers likely appreciate the cushioning, going by reviews online.
So, the On Cloudsurfer Next has some awfully cushy shoes to fill.
Bolstered by its proprietary CloudTec Phase, which prioritizes cushioning and has set the Swiss brand apart on the comfort scale, On's Cloudsurfer Next shoe is a jumping-off point from the OG Cloudsurfer sneaker, which was the brand's first-ever shoe (released back in 2012!) and is now up to iteration 7.
The reimagined Cloudsurfer Next design sees the incorporation of a new Helion foam compound, reportedly offering an even comfier run than its famously absorbent predecessors. This is one obscenely comfortable shoe, in other words.
But, perhaps the most notable adjustment is found in what stays the same.
This new shoe stays close to the Swiss brand's signature foot-hugging design. Born out of function (back in 2012, On said that chunky shoes were NOT for athletic endeavors), the slim but slightly bulkier silhouette is coming at an optimal time for where footwear seems to be headed (and fits in well with On's sleek technical footwear line).
Recently, slimmer, more contoured footwear builds have found favor over some of the bulkier shoes that have previously been undisrupted stylistic darlings.
So perhaps not intentionally, On's Cloudsurfer Next, available online for $150 at select outlets prior to a wider release in late summer, is right on trend.
