Brand Of The Week: Jay-Z-Approved Ovadia & Sons
Each week, we take some time to highlight one of our favorite brands. After featuring store-turned-brand Union LA last week, we’ve decided to shine a light on NYC-based brand Ovadia & Sons.
Ovadia & Sons was founded in 2011 by twin brothers Shimon and Ariel Ovadia, who moved from Jerusalem to New York City in the early ’80s. In a melting pot such as NYC, the brothers grew up appreciating everything from hip-hop and rock and roll to sports and graffiti. Sharing a love for fashion, the Ovadias decided to launch their own clothing brand, paying homage to their father.
The brand effortlessly combines streetwear and designer fashion, encompassing the brothers’ keen eye for design and street-savviness. Over the years, the brand started to get the attention of celebrities, especially NBA players such as Chris Paul, J.R. Smith, and Kevin Durant, former NFL star Victor Cruz, and rappers and producers such as Metro Boomin, 21 Savage, Big Sean, Future, Migos, and more.
In particular, Jay-Z seems to love the brand and can be spotted wearing a lot of the brothers' garments, including a custom-made version of the Ovadia & Sons x Levi’s Authorized Vintage denim jacket, which, instead of the brand's logo, has his last name, Carter, embroidered on the front.
For all of those wanting to channel their inner Shawn Carter, we've rounded a few of our favorite pieces available to buy right now. Our selection includes killer pieces such as an all-red tracksuit, a varsity ball jacket, and a summer-ready floral shirt. What's even better, these have been worn by some of our favorite rappers, including Kendrick Lamar, Gucci Mane, 21 Savage, Fabolous, and, of course, Hov.
