In 2009, Patta had an important anniversary to celebrate and it did so by releasing a Nike Air Max 1 collaboration that has become a grail.

The Air Max 1 ‘Chlorophyll’, named after the compound that gives green plants their color, was a limited-edition drop created for Patta’s fifth anniversary. Now, in 2024, the Amsterdam-based streetwear label is bringing it back to celebrate 20 years of Patta — well, allegedly.

Talk of the shoe returning started to swirl at the end of last year and was seemingly confirmed when Patta’s founders posted a photo wearing the shoes. Plus, to further ignite rumors, the musician Tems was in the photograph holding a Nike shoebox with the number 20 printed on it.

Since that teaser from Patta's founders on July 14, more images of the shoe have emerged.

The rumored re-release of the Nike x Patta Air Max 1 ‘Chlorophyll’ is practically an exact reproduction of the first collaboration, featuring the same delicious corduroy green accents — I mean: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Early reports suggest a September release date for these sneakers and industry insiders are tipping September 13 as the exact release date.

Patta has a long history of making hyped Air Max 1 sneakers, a continued collaboration that honors its Amsterdam roots. "In Amsterdam, the Air Max 1 became a game-changer through hip-hop,” Tim Sabajo, Patta’s general manager previously told Highsnobiety. “Music-wise, the city loved house and hip-hop. And both of those communities loved to pair the shoes with a tracksuit. When house blew up, they were more into the Air Max B/W, but it all started with the Air Max 1.”

From those with wavy-shaped paneling to pairs featuring denim fabrics, the Nike x Patta Air Max 1 ‘Chlorophyll’ is among the most hyped collaborations between the two brands. If you were considering spending four figures to buy a pair on resale sites, I’d recommend waiting for its imminent re-release.
