Editor's Notes: From Prada on Ice to the FW21 Linea Rossa collection, Prada basically owned skiwear this winter. As a sort of victory lap, the Italian company has issued a brief capsule in partnership with Aspen luxury retailer ASPENX.
With brands as diverse as KITH and Gucci targeting the resort town, it's a good time to be a wealthy skier. Prada's ASPENX collection sweetens the deal, exclusively available online or in a dedicated ASPENX shop-in-shop.
Sporting an illustrative take on the Linea Rossa red line logo provided by Aspen artist Paula Crown, the capsule keeps in line with previous Linea Rosso offerings in delivering both eco-conscious textiles and high-performance functionality.
For instance, Prada ASPENX recycled nylon outerwear pieces are lined with Extreme-Tex, a unique multi-layered membrane of Prada's own design that's reportedly both waterproof and low carbon impact.
Inside, Graphene padding distributes body heat throughout the garment to regulate the wearer's temperature.
It's all part of Prada's big push to take a bite out of the luxury adventurewear market. As evidenced by the Prada Outdoor collections that launched earlier this year, the Italian company takes gorpcore seriously.
So, though Prada ski gear is priced like its other luxurious outerwear pieces, it's all intended to perform as well as any technical garment designed by a more conventional ski gear company.
Of course, it wouldn't be a seasonal sportswear collection without the requisite hardware: Prada appropriately issued Oakley-designed eyewear, snowboards, and even skis so you can properly slalom in style.
