The Glow Up: Princess Gollum's Beauty Secret Is a Good Cry
Welcome to The Glow Up, Highsnobiety’s series examining the bathroom shelves of beautiful people.
Princess Gollum might look otherworldly, but her approach to beauty is down-to-earth.
The Los Angeles-based model and Byredo makeup artist can pull off the most extreme of looks (see: her partly shaved head and red contact lenses), but at the end of the day, she's all about the basics: sunscreen, Maybelline, and the expert hand of her favorite facialist.
In fact, some of her wisest beauty advice has nothing to do with the latest product or procedure — crying, drinking green tea, and meditating are among the creative's essentials.
Enter: the less-is-more routine that keeps Princess Gollum grounded.
First-ever beauty purchase
I was definitely a scene kid so the first product I ever "bought" was Maybelline eyeliner in the blackest shade of black. I made sure to get the one that looked like a mechanical pencil. Who has time to sharpen?
At the time, this was a really cool discovery for me. I can’t help but wonder... who do these products attract now? Maybe the next generation of angsty, emo adolescents?
Biggest splurge
My biggest splurge is committing to bi-weekly facials with Regina. She is someone I trust with my life and knows exactly what me and my skin need.
Holy grail
2022 is all about keeping it simple. Less is more.
Don’t think too much — meditate
Drink water, drink green tea
Cover up in the sun with Supergoop's Glow Screen
Curl and kiss your lashes with Byredo's Astronomical Mascara
Then kiss yourself with Dr. Devgan's Platinum Lip Plump SPF 30
If you're breaking out, no problem — try Starface's Pimple Patches
Drugstore favorite
I’m eternally stuck in my 2000s Avril Lavigne era, so Maybelline Sky High mascara + NYX lip liners = forever <3.
Best under-the-radar brand
Dieux Skin is known for their forever-reusable eye masks, made for us earth angels.
Beauty hot tip
Don’t hold it in. Cry it out if you have to.
