In case you missed the news, MTV is having a resurgence. This year, The Real World, The Hills, and even Celebrity Deathmatch are all scheduled to return to screens and ignite our ‘90s nostalgia once again. But that’s not all, the cultural icon has also paired up with PUMA on two new sneakers and it’s another throwback that’s got us longing for years past. Showcasing both the MTV collab and the core RS-X Tracks colorways, PUMA linked up with rapper Smokepurpp to further celebrate modern music.

Famed for reinventing music, entertainment, and pop culture, MTV has left its mark on PUMA’s RS-X Tracks model, itself a symbol of reinvention and innovation that harks back to classic PUMA silhouettes. The RS-X is part of PUMA’s re-established Running System (RS) line that disrupted the sneaker scene last year following its reintroduction. Thus far, the RS lineup has referenced iconic silhouettes such as the RS-100, RS-350, and even the RS Computer Shoe, one of the first sneakers to incorporate wearable tech.

With reinvention at its core, the RS-X is both a nod to the past and a figure of contemporary sneaker technology and design. Its bulky silhouette, oversized sole, and use of bold color blocking panels make it a treat for today’s statement obsessed culture and a sure-fire hit on the ‘gram.

In its collision with MTV, the RS-X gets a neon upgrade with fluorescent pink and green used across both the Gradient Blaze and Gradient Gloom colorways. The upper is realized in textile and mesh with leather overlays while textured panels amplify the chunky outsole. The iconic MTV logo appears on the tongue and heel counter. The collaboration comes over a decade after PUMA teamed up with MTV on the PUMA Yo! MTV Raps collection remembering the late-‘80s to early-‘90s hit TV show.

“We are thrilled to again partner with a brand that has successfully reinvented itself. Both brands, MTV and PUMA have a longstanding history of pushing culture forward. Together, we have reinvented our 80s icon RS into another extreme style which embodies the mix of music and fashion.”

Adam Petrick, PUMA’s Global Director for Brand & Marketing

Alongside the PUMA x MTV release, the sneaker giant is continuing its celebration of music culture with three non-collaborative RS-X Tracks colorways. Based once again on the RS-X design, the RS-X Tracks is an ode to music, celebrating its everlasting and unchanging qualities despite its constant evolution.

Like its MTV-branded counterpart, the RS-X Tracks boasts a chunky silhouette and on-display tech for an overall statement-making design. However, the RS-X Tracks is less ostentatious, brought to life in three subtle colorways suited to more toned down styling.
