Since 1987 PUMA has been building upon its iconic and revolutionary Slipstream legacy. Now, 35 years after it was first released, the brand pens the latest chapter in the Slipstream sneaker saga, and welcomes you on board.

To accompany the sneaker’s rebirth, say hello to PUMA’s ‘Welcome Unbored’ campaign which is all about exciting, new frontiers. Following a cast of PUMA’s sporty ambassadors like Neymar Jr, Romeo Beckham, LaMelo Ball, and Kinglsey Coman, the brand entices you to embark on a galactic journey to reach new horizons with the reworked silhouette.

It’s no surprise that the Slipstream, which had humble beginnings after succeeding the SKY LX, appealed instantly to the world of basketball. As a brand, PUMA has been fusing court and street style for as long as we can remember, with the core motto of ‘Made for the Street. Built for the Court.’ still ringing true to this day — and the Slipstream is no different.

Back in the day when the very first Slipstream came to life, it was stylish enough to wear out and about, but also had the ability to perform at NBA level. The high-top shoe was a sought-after silhouette by basketball players for its performance, cushioning, and unbridled stability. With its enticing tagline, “engineered for the serious player”, the sneaker was a pioneer for its innovative material use paired with its technical heredity, and slick look and feel — and today, the latest iteration reimagines and builds on just this.

It wasn’t just on the court that the unique design and aesthetic of the Slipstream infiltrated sports and culture. Off court, it made its way to the streets, catching the eyes of sneaker connoisseurs and hip-hop dance crew subcultures alike.

After a somewhat long hiatus, a retro program in 2002 reintroduced the Slipstream models like The Snake and The Beast into the Japanese market to appease an appetite for an overstated, ‘more is more’ sneaker design, leading to a Made in Japan version of the style.

Staying true to its 1980s basketball heritage, the Slipstream was once again re-issued last year to bring the court classic to the modern-day, without compromising on its performance roots. This summer, however, the storied Slipstream makes its awaited return in a plethora of colorways and makeups.

Re-imagined and with a bright twist, 2022’s evolution of the Slipstream combines basketball DNA with a clean, modern look. The silhouette's tooling and upper are given a contemporary feel thanks to a sculpted midsole, updated overlay panels, and a remodeled collar construction.
