Raf Simons & Fred Perry Drop New Collection Inspired by the Energy of Youth
Raf Simons and Fred Perry are back with a new collection inspired by the subculture and energy of youth. For this particular collaboration, tops are adorned with digitally printed photographs by British photographers Gavin Watson and George Plemper.
Watson began taking pictures at a very early age. By the time he was 16, he had already captured more than 10,000 photographs of his friends and peers. Watson is known for documenting a generation of kids coming of age, who used fashion to express their identity.
Plemper began as a South London school teacher documenting working class Britain through the eyes of his students. He honed in on London’s new town of Thamesmead and the kids who lived there.
Prior to this collection with Fred Perry, Raf Simons previously used Watson's images on his menswear designs. “When I started out, I focused on youth and subcultures, and Fred Perry was one of my many inspirations,” the designer said.
Simons' signature details are implemented on staple Fred Perry silhouettes for the new collaboration, including dropped shoulders on sweatshirts and unexpected print and logo applications. Polos, shirts, cotton sweatshirts, and hoodies are branded with a silver Laurel Wreath, as well as Raf Simons embroidery.
