Editor's Notes: Rick Owens and Dr. Martens are back at it. The two brands, a natural couple thanks to their roots in style subcultures, are set to release a two-part collaboration for FW22 that references Owens' own wardrobe as a teen.

Riffing on Dr. Martens' ankle-height 1460 and calf-height 1918, Owens reflects on the sartorial awakening he experienced in his youth.

"I saw how a tightly laced ankle leading to a broad, solidly planted food had a simple, modest, industrial masculinity — almost like a corset between a muscled calf and a sturdy foot that acted as a stoic ballast," Owens said in a press release.

"[Dr. Martens] exemplified this best. I saw them on all the guys flying through the air at the shows I went to then... Dr. Martens became a symbol of a raw and sweaty vitality that I thought I might be able to pull off."

Owens also explained the importance of casting artist Ron Athey in the Dr. Martens campaign: "Ron was the most beautiful creature I had ever seen, and I am afraid I was quite smitten. I asked Ron to represent this Dr. Martens collab as an example of how elegantly real transgression — and our individual searches for transcendence — can be."

In black and white leather, the Dr. Martens 1460 is laced in the same pentagram pattern that Owens employed in his previous Dr. Martens collaboration (and continues to employ in his namesake collection).

The tall 1918, a more dramatic silhouette, is rendered in off-white ponyhair and black grain leather, a material Owens often experiments with — remember those FW21 platform waders that look something like centaur legs?

As the saying goes: reunited and it feels so good! Rick and Doc are back in full swing, and they've got an encore in store to prove it, following up the the initial October 2022 release with a second round in early December 2022.
