Rick Owens Turns RIMOWA’s Cabin Bag Into a Bronzed Sculpture
For Rick Owens, having the perfect cabin bag is paramount. Quoted in the press release for his debut RIMOWA collaboration, the designer says he only ever travels with one carry-on bag, regardless of how far he is flying.
Now, together with German luggage experts RIMOWA, Rick Owens has crafted a cabin bag through his inimitable lens.
First teased at the Rick Owens Fall/Winter 2025 show in Paris, the American designer has transformed the signature silver aluminum outer of RIMOWA suitcases through a manual pigment application process. This gives it an aged-looking, dark bronze finish where no two suitcases are exactly alike.
According to RIMOWA CEO Hugues Bonnet-Masimbert, the brand reimagined the limits of its manufacturing to deliver this dark-colored case.
Owens says he wants the suitcase to recall the bronzed finish of sculptures by the likes of Alberto Giacometti, Constantin Brâncuși, and Richard Serra. Meanwhile, on the inside, he says it should feel like the touch of a black leather glove.
This is the first time in RIMOWA's over 125-year history that one of its suitcases has a full leather interior. From the lining to the dividers, it’s all reimagined in leather sourced by Rick Owens.
Finished with a hairy cowskin luggage tag, produced by Rick Owens in Italy, the RIMOWA x Rick Owens Original Cabin Bronze is limited to 500 numbered pieces. It retails for €2,900 and will be available from both brands’ websites starting January 30.
After seeing RIMOWA link up with brands as disparate as the fine jewelry company Tiffany & Co. to streetwear heavyweights Palace, it has now entered the avant-garde world of Rick Owens.
