And the timing couldn’t be more perfect. Rihanna’s continued sighting in Jacob & Co. timepieces is basically a tradition at this point — dawning some of the watchmaker and jeweler’s most illustrious and grail-worthy pieces. But the watch pick on Rihanna’s wrist couldn’t be more appropriate this week.

Dubbed the Brilliant Skeleton Northern Lights, the wrist sighting comes at a time when the earth is experiencing a historic geomagnetic storm — meaning the Northern Lights phenomenon is more visible than ever across the world. Coincidence? I think not.

As for the watch, the radiant piece by Jacob & Co. comes in a very wearable 44mm stainless case with a healthy amount of gem-setting — continuing with this trend of diamond set watches.  When it comes to the amount of bling on the Northern Lights watch, Jacob Arabo did his thing, equipping the watch with well over 300 white diamonds totaling, 11.2 ct.

And the movement? The watch is powered by Jacob & Co.’s in-house skeleton JCAM01 Manual winding. If you’re looking to own the Northern Lights and all its gleaming glory, be prepared to pay $72,000 at Jacob & Co

If we are being honest, this is probably not my favorite Jacob & Co. watch from the brand’s impressive line-up — with the Astronomia Regulator still being my preferred grail from the watchmaker at the moment.

However, Rihanna’s continued Jacob & Co. watch sightings signal a couple of things. First, factory-set diamond watches are here to stay. Traditionally viewed as ostentatious or at the very least only for the most special occasions, gem-stone watches are blowing up in the watch meta for both men and women.

This trend hit its peak during the 2024 Met Gala — with diamonds, rubies, and emeralds making appearances on the watches of attendees. Outside the red carpet, I am expecting more “blingy” watches to appear in rotations across watch enthusiasts young and old.

Secondly, Jacob & Co. is having a moment, appearing on the wrists of all your faves. A brand usually excluded from “serious” watch conversations continues to make waves in the industry with its unapologetically glamorous wristwatches and wide range of impressive engineering.

From Lana Del Rey to Pharrell, Jacob & Co. has set itself up as one of the “it” watch brands at the moment. But, I digress.

If you don’t have 70k burning a hole in your pocket and still want to see the Northern Lights, thanks to the current solar storm, the aurora borealis is currently visible across Europe and the US, free of charge.
