Rihanna's Fenty Line Is Already Full of Menswear Grails
Rihanna is back – with a mullet, a new Savage X Fenty show, and a menswear range that we unequivocally need. Next Friday, Rihanna and Amazon Prime will host another high energy, visually stunning experience where you can watch and shop her latest lingerie line.
As expected, the event is drawing some of the biggest names in music and fashion, including Travis Scott, Rosalia, Bad Bunny, Lizzo, Bella Hadid, Normani, and Willow Smith. Nevertheless, it’s the menswear selection that's causing the most buzz.
Rihanna tapped Christian Combs, the 22-year-old son of Sean “Diddy” Combs, to design the collection. “I wanted to create menswear styles that everyone can wear,” she explained, “and after Christian did such a great job at the 2019 fashion show wearing men’s, I knew we had to have him as a collaborator.”
Combs is responsible for the vibrant monograms and patterns that adorn the line’s boxer briefs, satin pants, and oversize smoking jackets. He told GQ, “Swag doesn’t come in grayscale, so Savage X Fenty underwear arrives in blue and silky red. Even many of the more conservatively colored pieces in black come with pops of bubblegum pink.”
The prospect of a Fenty x Savage menswear line (offering plus size pajamas) is certainly cause for celebration. But all genders have been slipping into Rihanna's coveted pieces since she launched her clothing line.
At last year’s British Fashion Awards, A$AP Rocky took relaxed tailoring to the extreme in a billowing, custom Fenty two-piece. And much like Flacko’s red carpet look before it, Rihanna’s forthcoming menswear line will probably be ahead of the curve once and enthusiastically sought after.
Expect to see these loungewear pieces in the public sphere. Combs revealed that he’s worn the pajama set out and about in Beverly Hills and received a lot of positive feedback, “so it’s okay to wear outside the house, too!”
The menswear line will be available on the Savage X Fenty website starting October 2, the same day the fashion show drops on Amazon.
