Double Tap to Zoom

Snob Diaries is a personal recap of seasonal events around the world, told through the lens of our staff and close friends. Highsnobiety's Associate Editor Jason Meggyesy takes us West to get the inside scoop on emerging luxury fashion brand Milli Point Two's debut collection, "Day One."

I’ve been meaning to get back to LA. The last time I found myself in the City of Angels was three years ago during a somewhat impromptu trek from Central Ohio to the West Coast with my two adventure-inclined college buddies. Tightly packed into a 2012 Toyota Corolla and running on a few hours sleep between our alternating driving shifts, my brief stint in SoCal provided only a transient snapshot of the Los Angeles experience I’ve heard so much talk about. Honestly, I’m still unsure if Erewhon is a real place or just some fictional Neverland fabricated by the entertainment industry.

This time, though, I arrived well rested and under a completely different set of circumstances thanks to the emerging luxury Maison, Milli Point Two. Thankfully, no 3 A.M. pit stops at a Kansan gas station were needed to complete this trip out West.

As the brainchild of Anthea Bebek and Tomo Trcak, cousins who share a love for ‘90s nostalgia and avant-garde aesthetics, the experimental Croatian atelier has meticulously cultivated a design language utterly separate from fashion’s status quo. Today, the brand is prepping to officially launch its debut collection for SS24 entitled “Day One,”– fitting, no? As the culmination of previous one-off capsules and pilot projects, like a brief foray in the web3 realm back in 2021, “Day One” arrives as the completely actualized version of Milli Point Two, representing a solidified starting point from which it hopes to further develop its intricate ethos.

And to better understand what exactly these visionary Slavs are all about, I made my long-desired return to Hollywood for the collection's premiere, fully immersing myself in the captivating mystique of Milli Point Two.

To begin my couture-themed excursion, I ventured into The Hills, where I was taken to a breathtaking estate overlooking the sweeping Los Angeles cityscape. Stepping inside the architectural oasis, I was greeted by a mixed crowd that included camera-toting influencers, reserved rappers, off-day models, and close friends of the brand scattered throughout the indoor-outdoor atmosphere. Slowly, I wandered into the mansion’s salon-turned-showroom, ensconced in the pounding bass and unmistakable lyrical runs synonymous with hip-hop legends of yore. Lined with titanium clothing racks, the curated space showcased Milli Point Two’s inaugural offering in a gallery-like display.

Until then, my interaction with the Croatian design house had been limited to a couple of press releases and a series of stylized photos showing Anthea and Tomo’s relatives clad in “Day One” capsule gear. In person, the garments’ quality spoke volumes, though. Feeling the high-end satins and luxurious leathers in my hands made me appreciate the designers’ attention to detail and the collection’s focused perspective. Playing around with ultra-wide cuts, rounded edges, and bold silhouettes, Milli Point Two’s first collection makes it clear they have no interest in being a part of the mainstream conversation but would rather initiate their own.

Eventually, I struck up a conversation with Anthea and Tomo, whom I had noticed floating around. Despite his hulking stature, Tomo appears gentle and charismatic, while Anthea maintains an inviting yet composed demeanor. After we exchanged thoughts on the brand and its latest deliverables, the cousins suggested I try on a few looks as I was set to have my own MPT moment at the dedicated “Day One” celebration event that night.

After changing into my hand-selected Milli Point Two outfit in my hotel, I headed back up the winding roads of LA suburbia, ending up at another multi-million dollar property where the festivities were to occur. Passing through the foyer, decorated with more “Day One” garments, I followed the clamoring chatter to the backside of the house where the celebration had already begun.

With a lineup of DJs that included BJ Panda Bear, Shaun Ross, and the internationally renowned Siobhan Bell, the night’s soundtrack was left in good hands. Scanning the scene, I noticed a few partygoers rocking pieces from the Milli Point Two collection while others just opted for their usual Instagram-worthy attire–their loss, I suppose.

Drinks, fits, and vibes abounded as the soiree carried on well past sunset. Catching up with Anthea and Tomo, I could sense their elation and humble awareness as they witnessed their dream come to life in real time–a tender family affair if I’ve ever seen one.

Stepping away from the action, I took a moment to gaze at the other mountainside manors surrounding me and review my most recent LA expedition. Traverse the city’s signature rising foothills? Check. Receive an exclusive look at a burgeoning brand and party with tenured members of the city’s enigmatic creative scene? Check and check. Befriend a large Croatian man with an affinity for design and vintage cartoons? Unexpected, but a check nonetheless.

All in all, my understanding of the “real” Los Angeles lifestyle still leaves a lot to the imagination, but the picture is becoming a bit clearer–unlike my thoughts on Erewhon, the jury is still out on that one.
