Jamie Foxx Is Pixar's First Black Lead in Trailer for 'Soul'
Pixar has shared the first full-length trailer for its new original film, Soul. The movie stars Jamie Foxx as the first black lead ever in a Pixar picture.
In Soul, Fox voices Joe Gardner, a middle school band teacher with dreams of becoming a professional jazz musician. Just as he learns he has landed a gig to play at the best jazz club in town, Joe stumbles into another dimension referred to as The Great Before, a place where new souls get their personalities and character traits before coming down to Earth.
Joe develops a relationship with a skeptical young soul named "22" during his time in The Great Before. Since 22 has absolutely no interest in venturing to Earth, Joe decides he will attempt to show the fellow soul the joys of living.
Tina Fey, Phylicia Rashad, Angela Bassett, Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson, and Daveed Diggs feature alongside Foxx in Soul, which is directed by Academy Award-winner Pete Docter. The film is due out in theaters June 19.
