What We’re Saying: adidas Originals and South Park area collaborating on the Three Stripes’ 4/20-themed sneaker this year. The inspiration for the sneaker, which is an adidas Originals Campus 80s, is the TV show’s Towelie character.

Towelie, a talking towel, is known for getting high consistently throughout the show, making him the perfect South Park character for the occasion. adidas has wrapped the Campus 80s upper in purple terrycloth material — the same material towels are made of — as a nod to the character.

Two eyes are prominently featured on the sneaker’s tongue. The eyes have been treated with a UV-sensitive, which causes them to turn bloodshot and red — much like when you get high after smoking weed — when the shoe is exposed to sunlight for a certain period of time. Towelie is often portrayed with half-open, bloodshot eyes, as well.

In addition to the eye effect, adidas has included a stash pocket underneath the tongue; a must-have feature on any self-respecting 4/20 sneaker.

The shoe is confirmed to be dropping on April 20 through the adidas CONFIRMED app and select retailers globally.
