Nickelodeon celebrated Pride month by announcing that SpongeBob SquarePants is gay.

The kid's channel took to Twitter yesterday to share that the popular character is a member of the LGBTQ community, writing, “Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month.”

The Tweet included photos of three of their canon characters who are gay:  Schwoz Schwartz from Henry Danger, and Korra from Avatar: The Legend of Korra, and of course SpongeBob.

Fans have known for a while Korra was bisexual, as it was revealed in the show itself. As for Schwoz, the actor who plays him, Michael D. Cohen, is transgender in real life. Now, when it comes to the Bikini Bottom dweller, fans have had their suspicions for a long time now.

While Nickelodeon hasn't specified his exact orientation and turned off the replies to its tweet, fans still celebrated the reveal. Scroll down to see how some people hilariously reacted to the news on social media.
