Post-Olympics, Skateboard Apparel Feels On a Roll Again
For what was now the second time since its instatement as an official discipline for Tokyo 2021, skateboarding caused quite the commotion at the Paris 2024 Olympics. And it wasn't just the sport itself, but skate fashion – both in shape of competitors' personal style, as well as their uniforms – that had us under a spell.
Anyone who's ever been to our site knows that skate fashion's integral to the broader DNA of streetwear, which, in turn, has powerfully thrust itself into the luxury space it was once excluded from. We're not about to make this a history lesson, but rehashing its past will remind of momentous milestones as much as it will of how said momentum's previously wained.
With medal-level ambassadors à la Jagger Eaton and big brands like Nike SB refreshing the category's contemporary mainstream appeal, we deemed it appropriate timing, however, to scour StockX for some of recent memory's best skate fashion offerings – with everything from actual gear to more subculture-inspired attire.
Skate Fashion to Kickflip the Script in
Nike SB Team USA Olympics Tee
Let us begin with an already alluded to item, Team USA's 2024 Olympics uniform. Provided by Nike SB, the design is fresh and airy, in its graphics as well as its breathable textile.
Nike SB Dunk Low
The "Futura Laboratories Bleached Aqua" version of Nike SB's low Dunks comes in a graffiti-resembling, multicolor pattern of teals, lavenders, and pinks. A true eye-catcher, on and off-board.
Palace x Reebok Shorts
London's Palace is one of the most esteemed skate fashion labels, and has been, pretty much since its 2009 inception. Of their sought-after Reebok collab, we really liked these refreshingly minimalist, loung-y shorts, for when you're not in the mood for jeans.
Palace x Thrasher Sweater
Speaking of collabs: When Palace and Thrasher joined forces, it was like worlds colliding. For the latter, too, is an absolute fixture in the domain of skateboarding: It's its forefront publication.
PUMA x NOAH Suede Classic
Brendon Babenzien and Estelle Bailey-Babenzien's NOAH grew from the fertile grounds that were to cross-breed streetwear codes with more traditional, higher brow elements of menswear. Partnering with PUMA is one of many successful exhibits of how this idea has materialized.
Supreme Basketball Jersey
You cannot talk about skate fashion without mentioning Supreme – so much so, it'd feel almost silly to recap its influence in barely-a-paragraph about a jersey. Rest assured though, despite its ups and downs over the years, Supreme's presence and impact are inevitable, here and beyond, and always will be.
Supreme x Ducati Hooded Work Jacket
When lending their hand to the making of a Ducati motorcycle jacket, Supreme concocted a denim, hooded and patch-spangled version, for a characteristically off-note interpretation of source material.
Supreme Leopard Sunshield Cap
Again, in typical Supreme (skate) fashion, they've re-envisioned a functional, chronically un-stylish item and made it even absurder-looking, for an almost campy revamp. Joke's literally on them.
Stüssy Snake Mesh Shorts
Founded in the 1980s, Stüssy is one of the oldest contenders of its kind, a pillar for the skateboarding and surfing communities it originally catered to. These shorts cannot keep Stüssy's knack for eclectic prints a secret.
Vans x BAPE LX Sk8-Mid
Vans and BAPE are two of the most important entities in the cosmos of skate fashion. The former's birthday dating all the way back to the 60s, the latter Japanese artist Nigo's 90s brainchild, this fusion is like a delicious cross-over of two TV shows you weren't sure existed in the same universe.
