'Akira' Movie Delayed Indefinitely While Taika Waititi Directs 'Thor 4'
Fans of Akira are going to have to wait longer than the previously-slated 2021 release date for the live-action remake. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Taika Waititi, who was set to helm the project, is returning to direct Thor 4, which means that the Akira film adaptation has been put on "indefinite" hold.
Akira was expected to release on May 21, 2021 and Waititi was reportedly already testing actors. Now with him writing and directing the fourth Thor movie the entire adaptation of the Japanese manga has been paused.
While this is exciting news for Marvel fans, it is unclear what the next step for Akira will be. According to THR, it's expected that Warner Bros. will wait for Waititi's schedule to clear so he can return to the project after Thor 4 has wrapped. Updates to follow.
