Is Umbro Reminiscing on Its Glory Years With Manchester United?
During the ‘90s and early naughts, Umbro was creating iconic football shirts from every direction.
The British sportswear giant is responsible for famous Perrelli-sponsored Inter Milan shirts, Celtic’s finest green-and-white striped strips, and the greatest England kits ever made. So, who can blame the label for reminiscing over past times?
The latest retro-fueled collection from Umbro arrives together with Japanese streetwear label Children of the Discordance and looks back at its years as the official kit maker for Manchester United.
Starting in the Premier League's inaugural season in 1992, Umbro was Manchester United's kit maker for ten years, a period when the team dominated English football and won the Premier League title seven times.
Umbro was United's kit maker while Sir Alex Ferguson built his ironclad legacy and Children of the Discordance looks to have mined those years for inspiration.
Due to licensing laws (adidas is currently the official Manchester United kit maker), Children of the Discordance can’t use Manchester United’s official badge on its new Umbro collaboration, however, it has produced an emblem with a strong likeness to United’s badge.
This emblem is used on a series of ‘90s-style football kits and warm-up tracksuits that splice together two opposing designs. These arrive along with a chunky knit sweater, warm-up jumper, and hats that continue the ‘90s-infused theme.
Joining the long list of football-inspired collaborations released by Umbro this year (which also includes collections with Aries, atmos, and Palace) Children of the Discordance x Umbro is available to shop now at select retailers including Store Attempt and Fazeone.
As the brand celebrates its 100-year anniversary, Umbro is continuing to revive its cool and this collaboration only furthers its increasingly prevalent streetwear credentials.
