Seven Years Later, Union LA's Incredible Jordan Sneakers Burst Back
Talk of when and where Nike and Union LA’s Air Jordan 1 “Chicago/Shadow” will be released has been rife. And it's been a topic of conversation since long before Union LA launched a cryptic Jordan-themed website or presented the shoe at an in-store event.
Rumors about this Frankensteined-together Air Jordan 1 have been swirling for over two years, ultimately being put to rest by Union LA on February 19.
The Los Angeles-based retailer has confirmed that this patchworked-together Jordan 1 is finally arriving.
Combining the Jordan 1’s signature “Chicago” and “Shadow” colorways, the sneaker releases on February 27 at 8 am PST via the aforementioned website. And there’s more than just these sneakers in the pipeline.
The Union x Jordan AJ1 arrives along with a full clothing collection.
In campaign images shared by Union, there are co-branded sweats and graphic T-shirts to honor the release of this shoe — a sneaker release as anticipated as this deserves some merch.
One of the biggest sneakers of 2018, the original Nike x Union Air Jordan 1s were an instant hit. A two-piece collection, fusing classic AJ1 colorways into one shoe, they sold out immediately and quickly started fetching big numbers on resale sites.
Naturally, the hype around that initial drop fueled an appetite for more Union Jordan 1s that jumble together contrasting colorways. But until now, we’ve been starved of any such sneakers.
After the release of this Chicago/Shadow AJ1, there’s a chance that another iteration is incoming: a mash-up colorway combining the "UNC" and the "Blue Royal" has recently been spotted at the Union LA store.
However, given Union LA and Nike’s track record, I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for that shoe to be released.
