1952

La Maison Givenchy launches with a debut Separates collection. The Bettina Blouse – named after Bettina Graziani immediately makes waves.

1953

Givenchy receives a visit from actress Audrey Hepburn fresh off the set of Roman Holiday, sent to choose clothes for her upcoming movie Sabrina. For years to come the pair maintain a friendship and Hepburn is more often than not spotted in the latest Givenchy designs.

1954

Hubert de Givenchy presents the first shirt dress. Givenchy becomes the first high fashion designer to create a luxury ready-to-wear collection “Givenchy Université.”

1957

Givenchy launches his first perfume, L’interdit, to huge success. It hits the headlines as the first time an actress was the face of a perfume with Audrey Hepburn.

1961

Givenchy designs First Lady Jackie Kennedy’s gown for her first couples visit to France.

Givenchy’s LBD and hat is worn by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

1969

Givenchy launches his first men’s collection Gentleman Givenchy.

1970

Givenchy develops licenses to protect his collections on the advice of friend and fellow designer Cristóbal Balenciaga. Givenchy begins to create jewelry, homeware and more, and is chosen to design the interior of multiple worldwide Hilton hotels.

1976

A Givenchy showroom arrives on New York’s Fifth Avenue.

1988

Givenchy sells the brand to luxury fashion house LVMH but remains as head designer until his retirement.

1995

Hubert de Givenchy retires and John Galliano is announced as his replacement.

1996

Givenchy names Alexander McQueen artistic director.

2001

Givenchy appoints Julien Macdonald artistic director for the women’s lines.

2005

Givenchy names Riccardo Tisci artistic director.

2010

Givenchy features a transgender model in their ad campaign. Lea T, a Brazilian model, became the face of the brand’s fall collection.

2011

Riccardo Tisci art directs and creates a visual identity for Jay-Z and Kanye’s Watch The Throne. The duo are spotted donning Tisci designed Givenchy T-shirts on their subsequent tour.

Givenchy debuts its now iconic Rottweiler print.

2014

Givenchy designs the wedding outfits of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

2015

Givenchy open flagship stores in New York and Milan.

2018

2020
