Government-Approved Artisans Made This $7,000 'Life-Sized' Sculpture
It's fair to say that Mickey Mouse and Peanuts have a lot of merch out there, from those mouse ears you find at Disneyland to sneaker collaborations or clothing drops (we've even been guilty of creating some ourselves). But nobody quite pays homage to the characters that shaped childhoods with the same attention to detail as Leblon Delienne.
Where else can you find artisans working on figurines with such precision that it has been recognized by the French government for its craftsmanship and design. The lengthy process begins with separately casting pieces, sanding them, painting them through spray paint or a hand brush for the finer details, lacquering and varnishing, before finally carefully assembling a fully-made figurine of a pop-culture icon.
It's a technique that the brand has been perfecting for over 30 years along with its team of sculptors, and that has helped build its reputation amongst fans of collectible figurines.
Merging together the worlds of toys, pop culture, and art to create collectible models has become big business. Medicom's BE@RBRICK has become a household name thanks to its countless collaborations that resell for unthinkable prices while the likes of Garagework Industries continue to link up with artists that have cult-like followings — and Leblon Delienne is one of the OG brands in this space.
Its most famous figurine features Mickey Mouse, the loveable big-eared Disney character who recently found himself at the center of a collection by this very magazine. Now, we've extended our love of Mickey by covering a life-size version of him in a custom colorway.
Created exclusively for Highsnobiety by Leblon Delienne, the latest figurines come in a gradient colorway that has been produced for the Highsnobiety Gift Shop — a curated selection of gifts available in our online shop to exchange over the holiday period.
This not only includes a huge 140cm tall life-size version of Mickey Mouse but also a smaller, 30cm tall variation. Joining Mickey is another cartoon character that has become an icon of popular culture — Snoopy.
Originally from the comic strip Peanuts which debuted in 1950, you can now not only find the character in the films made by the franchise but also on graphic t-shirts by BAPE or luxury bags by Goyard. The spotted white beagle has become a certified star more than worthy of its own life-size, hand-crafted model.
For The Snoopy figurine, the character is presented holding a white heart against his body which comes in a limited-edition gradient color finish. This includes a life-size 90cm tall version (because, as everyone should know, Snoopy is 50cm shorter than Mickey Mouse) and a smaller 27cm tall version.
A selection that will stand out even in the most colorful of interiors, check them out along with more presents for big kids in the Highsnobiety Gift Shop.
